The ball game is acknowledged to have appeared as long ago as at the Aztec times, although it had symbolic and religious meaning. There emerged a new kind of a sports game in the USA in 1891 – basketball. The story tells that a young teacher from Canada, doctor James Naismith invented a new game to make physical education lessons more active. He fastened two bottomless fruit baskets to balcony railing, the ball was to be thrown into the baskets. In a year, Naismith worked out first 13 points of basketball rules.
Basketball is a contact game full of energy and adrenalin. Thus, looking at Karen’s work, one feels the morale energy, the extreme nature of the game, fight and rage. Shown in motion, the two men – fierce rivals, – guided by the game spirit and the upcoming victory, are fighting for the ball. One can trace some similarity between the players and gladiators, who are ready to kill their enemy in order to gain victory and keep alive in the last battle. Nobody knows who will survive it.
