Winston Churchill is an extraordinary personality with an outstanding destiny. He had an amazing life: he was a career serviceman, writer, journalist, politician, Nobel prize winner in Literature and, of course, the Prime Minister of Britain. The personality of Churchill needs special attitude and deserves particular attention. Karen was to picture the great number of characters and identities of this historical person. His work shows Churchill in his silent spacious parlour where he is in deep thoughts about world political issues. The cigar, hat and stick, – the objects everyone knows, – underline Churchill’s character of a decisive and confident person. There lies an English bulldog beside him prefiguring Churchill himself. It is no wonder that he was compared to a bulldog for many times. When he lost the parliamentary elections in 1950, Emrys Hughes wrote: “The bulldog has lost his bone again”. Looking at Churchill, one realizes that he will never let his bone get lost: every fold of his clothes, his position and movements indicate the uncompromising nature of his thoughts and actions. Nobody and nothing remain unnoticed under the watchful gaze of Churchill. And the English bulldog depicted as his alter-ego will always guard his master in case of emergency. They seem to speak to the viewer about what is going on here. It is not the viewer who asks questions, but it is Churchill who is waiting for his answers. Karen creates the different reality of the dialog between Churchill and the viewer. It comprises both simplicity and complexity of the composition, it emphasizes the importance of the policy maker who played a great role in the world history.
